Every scout deserves a trained leader. . .
Every parent in our Pack is a leader. In order to provide a quality program for our boys, we need training.
Youth Protection Training (YPT)
All leaders are required to complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) and all adults are strongly encouraged to do so. If you will be assisting in a den, going on a family campout, Cub Scout Day Camp or a Pack/Den field trip you need Youth Protection Training. At a minimum, YPT for these types of activities is an online course that can be completed online in about an hour. You may access it online through the BSA MyScouting Learning Center.
New YPT Requirement by the State of Texas and the Boy Scouts of America
Formal classroom style YPT by the State of Texas for licensed youth camps is a requirement for any leader or adult who will be attending an overnight campout organized by the BSA or Bay Area Council. The training must be facilitated by a council training committee-approved facilitator(s). Pack 678 has trained facilitators who can conduct this “face to face” training course and issue certificates of training completion for the Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection (license for State of Texas YC06-0014). To find out more about this training or scheduled times for the Pack or Council please contact the Cub Master.
New Leader Essentials/Leader Specific Training
Leaders are strongly encouraged to recieve New Leader Essential and Leader Specific Training. This training helps to orient you to scouting and give you the tools to be successful. This course is offered often. Please see the Bay Area Council Training Calendar for course dates and times.
There are many other training opportunities available. Our Pack needs more people who are BALOO trained (required for campouts), Rangemaster trained, OWLS trained (Webelos camping), Leave No Trace, . . .
Please make sure you keep pack leader up to date on your training. When you complete training, make sure you get a training card or certificate. KEEP A COPY for yourself and give one to Lacy Rawlings(packtrainer (at) cubscoutpack678 . com) so that we may keep our Pack records up to date.
NOTE: Everytime you participate in a camp or district activity – you will be asked to provide a copy of your training certificates. Make several copies and keep them handy – it will make life much easier later.
